HERE IS AN INTERVIEW WITH MIRACLE FREEBORN
Tell us briefly about yourself and family?
My name is Freeborn Miracle Osasuwmen, from Esan south east local government area Edo state, I’m a 400 level student of the university of Benin, studying educational evaluation counselling psychology. Had my elementary, primary and secondary school education in Benin. I’m the second child of my parents, I have four siblings, my parents are from Esan south east local government area Edo state.
Who is your role model?
My role model is Agbani Darego, the first and only Nigerian to win Miss world.
What is your ideal Niger Delta?
My ideal Niger delta is a peaceful, United and economically dependent region, a region with no tribal discrimination.
What regrets do you have so far as a young lady and a Pageant model?
My only regret as a pageant is not starting my modelling career early enough and entertaining doubt and disbelief during the early stage of my career.
How was your FONDCUP 2022 camp experience?
My experience in FONDCUP 2022 was educational, fun and stressful all at the same time. Meeting and bonding with the girls was the best part of FONDCUP for me. The tasks were really challenging from the going to the farm to peeling of cassava and the frying garri, it wasn’t easy but it was educating, how i pulled through is a mystery to me because they were days when I thought I couldn’t go on but then as the saying goes ‘you don’t know how strong you are until being strong is the only option’ each of this task brought me close to my grass-root, I had a taste of the daily life of my assessors and I’m grateful to FONDCUP for making it possible.
How would you describe your roommates? (mention their names and the states they represent)
My roommates and I came to camp together, so we already started bonding even before we got to camp.
Rachel Olaboade representing Ondo state. I call her the clown of the house, she’s a very beautiful and tall maiden, one thing I loved so much about her was how she managed to make a joke out of every situation even on days we were exhausted or emotionally down, she’s a very strong person, she doesn’t allow things get to her easily instead she makes a joke out of it, she’s very respectful and one of the most entertaining persons I’ve met.
Shalom Esinulo representing Imo state. I nicknamed her the smiley face, she’s warm and accommodating, what I admire most about her was her ability to smile even on days she was sad or extremely exhausted. She’s a bit doughy but then fun to be with.
What have you learned from co-existing with your fellow maidens?
Living with the other maidens has taught me to work as a team, the team spirit within the nine of us was so strong, we had a way of pulling each other out of our dark moments, this really rekindled my hope of a better Niger delta, because if all nine maidens from the nine states with different upbringing and cultural diversity could coexist in peace then the whole of Niger delta could do same.
Why would you want to become the next FONDCUP QUEEN?
I will love to be the queen of FONDCUP also I can be an ambassador of peace and an instrument of unity in the Niger delta region which is one of the goals of FONDCUP. Also I would like to be queen so I can use my position to affect the life of people living with disabilities, to restore hope to their families and change the wrong narrative of disability in Nigeria.
What is your possible solution to the constant crisis in the Niger Delta region?
One of the major crises in the Niger delta is insecurity. Killings and kidnappings everywhere, we’re not safe even in our own homes and the major instruments used to perpetrate these evil acts are the youth, who are mostly driven by poverty and frustration, my solution to this crisis is to empower the youths, young minds should not be left idle, organize seminars, teach them a skill and provide basic amenities for them to start up, show them that they can live comfortably without having to endanger their lives and create chaos.
Which rule or law in your culture and/or tradition would you want to change if given the opportunity?
If given the opportunity I would love to stop the imposing of husbands on young girls who are not mentally and emotionally ready for the challenges that comes with marriage.
When you become FONDCUP2022 Queen, what would you want the Niger Delta people to recognize you with?
I would like to be recognized as one who is associated with everyone, regardless of their size, tribe or status, one who’s the voice of the voiceless and an ambassador of people living with disabilities.
What is your life’s greatest challenge and regret?
I have no regrets in life, every challenge I’ve encountered either left me with a blessing or a lesson which contributed to who and where I am today. I’m thankful for each moment that
